KATIE COLWELL (she/her) is a queer director and cinematographer based in Brooklyn, New York. She hails from a small town in Connecticut with a B.A. in Filmmaking from Oakland University (Rochester, MI) where she swam competitively for the Division I school.
When it comes to her cinematography work, Katie specializes in working with colors and creating a bold style. She is not afraid to experiment and push the visuals to enhance the story. In the narrative world, Katie loves working on horror and comedy, genres that often meld into others. Along with narratives, she also has a passion for music videos, the ultimate playground for experimentation in the visual space. Above all, she loves collaborating with different directors to make their vision come to life.
As a director, Katie has a strong passion for horror, LGBTQ+ stories, and underwater work. Her newest film, Lapse, is a proof of concept short that combines her love for horror and competitive swimming for her professional directorial debut.
Currently in post-production, her next short film, Being Here, takes place on a sailboat and delves into themes of coming out and sisterhood.
Katie has worked with clients such as Ralph Lauren, IL MAKIAGE, MALIN + GOETZ, Byrdie, Knicks, and more.
